FEATURED QUESTION

Why would my pharmacy contact my doctor for refills?

Your pharmacy may contact your doctor about your prescription refills. This is normal as it helps make sure your medication is safe and accurate.

The most common reasons a pharmacy will contact your doctor about your refills include:

  • The prescription has no refills left.
  • The prescription has expired and needs your doctor’s approval.
  • The directions or amount of medication you take look different.
  • The medication may not work well with another medication you take.
  • The medication is a controlled substance with special rules.
  • Your prescription insurance needs to approve the medication.
  • The pharmacist needs more information because some instructions are missing or unclear.

Your doctor and pharmacy work together to help make sure you get the right medication to help keep you healthy.
