Is my medication causing sun sensitivity?

Certain medications can cause increased sun sensitivity, also called photosensitivity. This means you could be more at risk for sun damage because it makes your skin sensitive to the sun.

If you experience this, you may notice:

• Sunburns
• Rashes
• Swelling
• Bumps or hives
• Pain or burning sensations

These symptoms can show up within minutes to a day after spending time in the sun.

Your doctor or pharmacist can help if you are having sun sensitivity due to your medications. They may adjust your medication or help find ways you can protect yourself from the sun to keep your skin safe.
